Roasted Broccoli with Parmesan Lemon Butter Sauce
So you may or may not have noticed that I am trying to pump you full of side dish recipes for the holiday season! (hehe… big smile)
Sure the protein (aka the turkey) is a big part of any meal but the side dishes are the stars, THEY are what make a meal shine!
Recently I took a trip to Chicago and was able to visit Girl and the Goat a very popular restaurant that was named Best New Restaurant by the James Beard Foundation in 2011. Girl and the Goat is run by Executive Chef Stephanie Izard who is a former Top Chef winner!
Needless to say the food was absolutely amazing! Chef Steph did an incredible job of infusing tons of flavor into each dish. But I think the thing I was most astounded by were the side dishes! (see how I pulled that all together… see it hehe :))
Here were just a few of the heavy hitters we tried at “the goat”: Roasted Cauliflower with Pickled Peppers, Pine Nuts and Mint; Pan Fried Shishito Peppers with Parmesan Sesame and Miso; Sweet Potato Bleu Cheese Pierogies with Mushroom Cream and Apple; and the dish that inspired todays recipe Wood Grilled Broccoli with rogue Smokey Bleu Cheese!
Now, I don’t have a wood grill oven at home but I do have AN oven. I thought roasting the broccoli would give it a nice smokey flavor and enhance the natural flavors of the broccoli.
Why I Love This Broccoli Recipe
I guessed right! This broccoli is complimented by a simple lemon butter sauce and then topped with freshly shaved parmesan cheese. There are literally five ingredients in this recipe – happy dance and fist pumping because your grocery list just got smaller.
And let’s be honest we all need a little simplicity around the holidays especially when it comes to meals. But if you’re like me, you want simple but you don’t want to sacrifice flavor and this dish definitely does not sacrifice flavor!
To make this dish even more appealing you can make it a day ahead if you like. Just be sure to pour the lemon butter sauce on the broccoli as soon as they get out of the oven. Store it in an air tight container and then top with fresh parmesan right before you’re about to serve.
You’re welcome. You can give me a hug later. 🙂
So instead of making unhealthy green bean casserole this year, change it up, make your life simpler by making this Roasted Broccoli covered in a light Lemon Butter Sauce.

Girl and the Goat is kinda perfect, eh? Luckily I’m a local and can pop in a bit more often! 😉
P.S. SO happy we met in person last week!! Wish we had more time to hang out, but everything happens so fast at these conferences… I couldn’t keep up.
Definitely jealous that you can just pop in to girl and the goat whenever you want. I guess will just have to dream about the food until the next time I’m in Chicago. 🙂
And sooo excited that I was able to meet you too girl! I was so mad that I got sick all day Saturday, would have been fun to hang out more!
